Gilling Beck broke its banks along Waters Lane and from the Millennium Field east to Anteforth. The waters subsided during the day, but it was the worst conditions to be experienced since July 2007.

Remember any time of the days is vulnerable as property are stolen through out the day and not just overnight.
Please report any suspicious vehicles at the time with registration numbers to North Yorkshire Police 0845 60 60 24 7.
I am also having good results with my proactive watch scheme called Borderwatch where volunteers give up a few hours on a night to report any suspicious vehicles or incidents. We have police radio allocation now so they can talk directly to on duty police officers to get a response. I would like more volunteers. Any one interested?
Please contact me at Richmond PC391 John Wilbor. Thank you

Borderwatch - Newsletter
Two persons were arrested at North Cowton when they were seen coming out of a field at 10.30pm 300108 where a pair of gloves and a hacksaw were found. They had muddy clothing so they were arrested for going equipped to steal because of their condition, the found property and the time of night away from their home address. They could not be linked to any crime scene but the one of the persons who was the driver of the vehicle they had used to get there was reported for motoring offences. More ways than one to skin a cat!
Between 10.30pm 300108 and 7.30am 310108 there was a burglary at a farm in Gilling west where a vehicle and tools were stolen.
Unfortunately the same night over £5000 worth of tack was stolen from a neighbouring address.
It just shows they do not come on the off chance. So vigilance is the key when strange vehicles, persons are about during the day ie poachers as they must gain this information about where property is worth stealing.
Between 020208 and 030208 a large amount of coping stones were stolen from walls at Ravensworth. So if you see vehicles such as pickups, flat beds parked at the side of the road being loaded with stolen ring North Yorkshire Police. We are getting a lot of this old antiquated dressed stone being stolen. You will probably notice a few bare wall tops in the area.
Here is one for specificness. On the night of 100208 110208 a van was moved from its parking place in front of an address and moved down the drive out of a lighted area. On 040208 a owner of a vehicle left it parked outside his house under renovation in the Newsham area with the keys left in it. He heard the car being started and managed to close a gate and prevent it from being driven away. At the time a van was seen speeding away further down the road. The offender from the car ran off but was later found and arrested. He said he was looking for a job and saw the keys in the vehicle and decided to go for a joy ride. I disagree he was doing his job looking for vehicles with keys left in them to steal the vehicle for good. Please be aware.
