HOUSEHOLD WASTE

1931 - A communication from Richmond Rural District Council had been received giving two alternative schemes for refuse collection:

1 - To employ a motor wagon to call at the houses and cottages in the Parish monthly to collect the refuse, which would be dumped at some approved tip. The price may be £20 approximately per year.

    2. To provide a small walled dump beside the outskirts to the village. To this people will bring their own refuse and deposit it. This will be cleaned from time to time.

It was proposed that advertisements be placed in local newspapers inviting tenders. A subsequent Parish Council Meeting heard that only one Tender had been received for carting away the dry refuse to Gatherley Moor Tip - £8.10.0d per annum. for two years. This was accepted to commence from January 1st 1932, and the Clerk was instructed to inform householders as to collection days.

1935 - A complaint was brought forward respecting the Refuse Collector, by that he was selecting his own days without informing householders. It was agreed the Collector must give the Council 7 days notice if he wished to deviate from the days formally drawn up[ at the commencement of the scheme.
